UNITI announces a change to its method of billing CP plate

Effective with all CP plate orders entered after January 1, 2005, Uniti will be adjusting the method by which it calculates the billing weight of plate. Today, plate shipments are billed on a theoretical weight basis; density x ordered gauge x ordered width x measured length. In order to meet the thickness tolerance bias associated with the ASTM B 265 specification and ultimately the higher rolling aim gauges, Uniti will be adding an “up-gauge” to the ordered thickness when calculating the theoretical weight of each plate. The “up-gauge” is a decimal equivalent that changes with each gauge cell of plate and when added to the ordered size will reflect the nominal gauge within the given tolerance range for ASTM (see below). For example, for ASTM B 265 GR. 2 0.250" (+0.050", -0.010") x 96" x 240", the up-gauge will be 0.020". The theoretical billing weight will be calculated as follows: 0.163 x 0.270" x 96" x 240" = 1014 lbs. This billing method will apply to all plate orders entered directly on the mill for production.
